On Wednesday the 17th of March 2010, in despair, two Iraqi refugees detained arbitrarily at the General Security retention centre are alleged to have violently beaten their heads on the wall.

Several others declared that they had stopped eating for two weeks to protest against their detention conditions and to demand their release. Others have joined in a hunger strike, which the authorities have made a point to deny.

On several occasions since last week, some refugees spent hours screaming in despair in the underground cells of the retention centre.

Today a protest outside the General Security Retention Centre took place to demand the immediate release of all refugees detained arbitrarily, and the closure of the retention centre where the persons are forgotten underground and denied access to their lawyers.
