Torun is a medieval city in Poland located along the lower Vistula. Its Gothic architecture is outstanding and is presented here in its full beauty. Torun, Poland. 20/04/2010.
Torun is one of the best preserved Polish medieval cities. Unlike so many other towns in this country parenially ravaged by wars, the whole original extent and buildings of the town as it existed in the late medieval period have been preserved. Founded in 1233 by the Teutonic Knights, the city rapidly grew and became one of the largest and wealthiest in Poland at that time. In 1997 its preserved medieval core was added to the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage. For once, the promotional slogan of the town " gotyk na dotyk" or " easily touchable Gothic" is not a mere catchword of some absent PR executives, but holds really true. This report aims to show you the best of Torun, and inivites you to partake in its unparalled Gothic charms.
