Sheffield Half Marathon competitor Deborah Richards of Sheffield Running Club collapsed after staggering onto the final straight at Don Valley Stadium, before beginning to crawl for the finish line. As members of the South Yorkshire Ambulance Service moved into help they were told by race officials not to touch Deborah, as she struggled to finish, so she would not be disqualified.
After regaining her feet and taking two minutes to make it down the home straight Deborah crossed the finish in a time of 1 hour 29 minutes 20 seconds making her the second female in the 35 year old age group to finish.

Mens first place was taken by Andrew Pearson of Longwood Running Club (Time 01:07:04) while the First woman to Cross the finish was Natalie Farrow of Lincoln (Time 01:23:24) along side the athletics and club runners was former Sheffield Labour MP Richard Caborn and a number of fancy dress and charity fund-raisers
