A part of Basundhara city’s largest shopping mall cum commercial centre being burned out on Friday.
The fire began on the 18th floor of the building at 2.00 pm. That is the office complex of the Basundhara Group which is one of the largest corporations of Bangladesh.
The fire burned the Basundhara tower from 12th floor to 18th floor.
Fire-fighters reported that many had been injured in the fire and the death of one of their own fire-fighters named as Baki Billah.
Minister of home affairs Sahara Khatun, Sohel Ahmed Taj and the (IGP) local police and the Mayor of Dhaka City Sadek Hossain visited the place.
The people of Dhaka city talked about the need to upgrade their fire fighting tools and to enhance the training of the fire-fighters.
Especially as the blaze continued much to the dismay of the fire-fighters who had to call in the Bangladeshi Army as well as the Navy and the Air-force to work together putting out the fire.
Luckily the fire erupted on a government holiday so there were far less people in the building, had it not the injuries and deaths could have been far greater.
The architect of the building has also been criticised.
