A pro-gay rally occurred outside the Arthur Miller Theatre at the Walgreen Drama Center preceding Ann Arbor Civic Theatre's production of The Laramie Project on Saturday evening, May 8, 2010. The rally on the University of Michigan's North Campus was organized as a counter-protest to a planned anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church demonstration, but the Westboro group failed to appear.

Speakers at the rally included Washtenaw County Commissioner and Michigan State Representative candidate Jeff Irwin, and University of Michigan Student Assembly President Chris Armstrong.
