Pro-democracy protest in the American university in Cairo

A few students from the American University in Cairo organized a sit-in today. The group addressed their fellow students to urge them to get a voting card before the upcoming presidential election. A sheet was circulating where students could write their contact info in order to get the voting card.

The demonstrators also protested against the extension of the emergency law that has been on since 1967.

Interestingly, some of the university's security agents seemed to be quite interested what the students had to say. On the other hand, most of the other student did not seem to car much about the sit-in. While I was shooting I heard some girls making fun of the demonstrators and calling them 'the huss hippies' (huss meaning social science department). AUC is such a bubble! The upper-class in Egypt has definitely little considerations for pro-democratic reforms.
