A fire has caused severe damage to the Newington Court residence in Port Elizabeth. No lives were lost. Residents of the home were attending a funeral at the time which may have saved their lives. Port Elizabeth, South Africa. 14/06/2010.

Speedy response form the Port Elizabeth fire department on Monday saved much of the Newington Court residence in Port Elizabeth after the home was engulfed in fire.

Apparently no lives where lost during the blaze which was rapidly brought under control.

I picked up the news story when it broke on Twitter http://twitter.com/algoafm/status/16134174684 and within 15min of the twitter report I was on the scene. The fire department had already secured the location and had brought the fire under control.

With the World Cup Soccer match between Portugal and Ivory Coast only hours away all the emergency services seem to be on the ball and most emergencies are sorted out very rapidly.

Great work guys ;-)

Good find, Simon. Pictures of South Africa has been more exciting than the football being played there, haha.
