25th Sabah Dragon Boat Race 2010 is set to be held on the 19th and 20th June 2010 at the scenic Likas Bay Public Park. The event was Initiated by the Sabah Chinese Cultural Association. Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. 19/06/2010
As one of Malaysia major business cities, Kota Kinabalu is home to some of the largest international festivals in Sabah, one of them is the yearly Dragon Boat Race Festival. The colourful events was witnessed by more than 10,000 spectators who had come from all over Kota Kinabalu to fill up the shores of the Likas Bay.
His Excellency, Sabah Head of State, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Ahmadshah bin Abdullah throwing rice dumpling in the Sea in a symbolic ceremony to launch the two-day event.
The 25th Sabah Dragon Boat Race was Initiated by the Sabah Chinese Cultural Association 19 years ago, the Race was placed under the responsibility of the Sabah Tourism Board in 1996. The race was then briefly under the organised by the Ministry of Youth & Sports in the years 2002 and 2003 but is now (since 2004) back in the hands of Sabah Tourism.
Participants from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines and Brunei. There are 9 trophies to be won and a total of RM43, 000.00 prize money up for grabs.
Apart from the race, activities include canoeing competition, sailing activities and beach soccer competition.
