Buddhika Weerasingh-Japan, Japan’s political parties start official public campaigning for upcoming election for the upper house of parliament on July 11 2010.

Prime Minister Naoto Kan of ruling Democratic Party made his first campaign speech in Osaka today, June 24 and said “I promise to rebuild the economy and put Japan on a growth track”.

Main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) upper house candidate of Fukui prefecture held their first official public rally with hundreds of supporters in front of the JR station in Fukui city.

The upper house has 242 seats. The last upper house election was in July 2007.
