Education in Kenya

At the crack of dawn Elizabeth Nasipa, the mother of three, prepares her children for a gruelling walk of 6 kilometres to Ol-Arjijo primary school in Dol Dol in Laikipia in Kenya's Rift Valley. They are just an example of one of many families who go through such a trial to have a basic education.
The development of education among Kenya's pastoralists has lagged behind as opposed to the well settled agricultural communities following skewed policies over the years. Kenya's government has come up with a marshal plan that provides stimulus funds to the education industry located in these dry and semi-dry areas. Yet to take affect for these three and many others just completing 8 years of primary school there remains a battle against great odds.
