Description:

Howl was the Frameline 34 closing night film at the Castro. It stars James Franco as poet Allen Ginsberg and was directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. Epstein won an Oscar for The Times of Harvey Milk which Franco watched when he was working on Milk. They both won Oscars for Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt.

The producers of Howl included Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Kunewa Walker.

The movie included animation of the poem by artist Eric Drooker who worked with Ginsberg on Illuminated Poems. A book of Howl with his art will come out August 31, 2010.

The film will open September 24th in San Francisco and New York, October 1st in LA, and then expand to other cities.
