At approximately 11:30pm there was an explosion in the "Copper Tiffin" Indian restaurant on Cleveland St, in Redfern/Surry Hills, Sydney, sending the front of the restaurant out onto the road. The four residents living above the restaurant were able to escape and no one was injured.

Police are treating the incident as 'deliberate', and are keen to speak with two men seen running from the back of the restaurant as the fire broke out. Residents heard a loud deep 'bang', at approximately 11:30pm, and a nearby restaurant owner claimed the Copper Tiffin restaurant 'exploded' out the front as he was leaving his own restaurant, and avoided being hit by the explosion by mere seconds, as he walks past it to get home.

A local resident has reported that on Friday 25th June, 10 days prior to the explosion at Copper Tiffin, the Japanese restaurant next door was evacuated in response to a bomb threat received at the Indian restaurant.

By morning, the police had re-opened Cleveland St for peak hour traffic; the clean-up and investigation continues.
