La Carton Rapid Race è una bizzarra gara amatoriale sul fiume, unica in Italia e forse la prima al mondo nel suo genere, inserita nel contesto di una grande manifestazione sportiva a carattere promozionale e aggregativo, un ritrovo per una esclusiva festa sul fiume. Durante le giornate di sabato e di domenica, una serie di iniziative collaterali a scopo di intrattenimento e promozione fanno, infatti, da cornice alla gara.
La gara è una prova di abilità sportiva, artistica e costruttiva allo stesso tempo, che consiste prima nella realizzazione della propria imbarcazione (canoa, kayak, raft), costruita sul posto usando esclusivamente cartone ed una quantità stabilita di nastro adesivo e poi in una discesa cronometrata in facile acqua mossa.
Catalogare questa gara tra le gare estreme è come dire che il rafting, il kayak, la canoa, ecc. sono sport estremi. C'è parecchia confusione sull'argomento...
Certo è che l'utilizzo del cartone per costruire un'imbarcazione con cui scendere un tratto di torrente è senz'altro una situazione portata all'estremo, il cartone non è il materiale più adatto.
