Laporta launches new alliance for Catalan independence

The platform "Solidaritat Catalana per la Independencia." (Catalan Solidarity for independence) was officially presented today in Barcelona.
A fusion of different Catalan groups and foundations in favour of independence of the state, it is led by important figures in catalunya like Joan Laporta Ex-president of FC Barcelona, one of the main protagonists of Catalonian politics. The launch was attended by the press, as well citizens and tourists.
The presentation took place in the Plaça del Rei, a site of high historical importance to the Catalans during the medieval era. It was here that Catalan writer and journalist Isabel Clara Simó read the manifesto and its main points.
The manifesto illustrated the reasons behind the party's name, chosen in honour of Solidaritat movement that rose in 1906, the first Catalan alliance of these sorts.
They aim to present a referendum for Catalonian independence at the next elections, and form a Catalan government which wil be part of the European Union.
