Newcastle Asian Arts and Music (NAAM) presents the 17th successive annual Mela festival in association with Unison. The Mela which was held at the Exhibition Park was a two day free event based around Punjabi, Pakistani, Bengali and Hindi and other South Asian cultures, and was opened to anyone who wants to learn more, be entertained and meet new people as well as enjoy different music, art and food in the heart of Newcastle. In short, Mela is the feast of sights, smells, sounds and tastes.
The event which started from 31st of July and ended today, includes the hottest contemporary Asian acts as well as traditional displays of music and dance which appealed to all ages and races. The Newcastle Mela offered extensive activities targeting the whole family and brought together the diverse ethnic communities in and around Newcastle and surrounding areas.
