People waited outside the Philip Burton Federal Building and United States Court House for Judge Vaughn Walker's ruling in the Prop 8 gay marriage case. Amongst them was Molly McKay, attorney and civil rights activists for homosexual and transgendered individuals.

Most hoped Prop 8 would be struck down, but a few people supported the measure which passed by a narrow margin in 2008. And there were many journalists.

They kept checking the court's website and other sources for news. The ruling overturning Prop 8 was first confirmed through a Facebook update by Equality California. People cheered.

Excerpts from the decision were read to the crowd from an iPhone. Religious leaders prayed and one cried tears of joy.
