First night terawih prayers in Ramadan qaryah here saw the prayer tent filled with pilgrims in conjunction with Ihya Ramadhan 1431 for the Hijrah.
Program 'Ihya Ramadhan' on the 'veranda of Mecca' was organized by the State Government qaryah Ramadan and hosted by the Kota Baru Municipal Council of the Islamic City (MPKB-BRI).
Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, Chairman of the Local Government, Tourism and Culture states in his speech on the night to welcome the visitors and the congregation.
He also introduced the two priests of Egypt who will lead qaryah Ramadan prhayers, Sheikh Rajab Saad Yassin (the priest in the previous year) and Sheikh Ahmad Ramadan Ayyub Muosa.
Speaking of Sheikh Rajab in Kelantan, who has been performing Terawih for three years runnning, Takiyuddin mention that he also received an invitation to become a priest of terawih prayers in several other countries for double payment, but declined as he wanted to be with the people of Kelantan.
The fully air-conditioned tents can accommodate up to 2,000 people at any one time.
