Climate activists gear up for day of mass action against RBS.

Climate activists demonstrating against RBS banking group at the bank's global HQ in Edinburgh have stepped up their protest actions over the weekend, ahead of a "day of mass action" on Monday.
The Climate Camp swelled in size as hundreds of protesters flooded in from around the UK and abroad. And they have vowed to prevent the Bank doing business as usual on Monday's day of action, though actions and tactics are being kept secret.
The demonstrators first took over part of the Bank's grounds close to its headquarters buildings in a "swoop" last Wednesday night, and began setting up camp infrastructure including field kitchens, toilets, and wind and solar power generators. Protesters have come from Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and beyond.
And a group representing indigenous peoples' whose lands and lifestyles are claimed to be under threat from RBS-funded enterprises, has come from Canada to highlight the Bank's role in financing businesses involved in controversial "Tar Sands" projects.
Jasmine Thomas and Riannon Ball, two members of indigenous First Nations in British Columbia, have been briefing climate activists at the Camp on the impact of Tar Sands and oil pipeline projects on indigenous communities.
Actions against RBS Group over the last few days included mass incursions by up to 150 demonstrators around and into headquarters buildings, street-theatre type protests at bank offices and an RBS-sponsored open air stage at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Protesters also targeted bank branches around the City, letting off stink bombs and super-gluing doors shut.
An RBS spokesman said the Bank would be mounting substantially increased security measures in response to the threatened mass action on Monday, and in addition closing the staff nursery and allowing some staff to work at other locations, for safety reasons.
