They came, they danced, and they flew...well maybe tumbled is more descriptive, but all in great fun and enthusiasm. The world famous Red Bull Flugtag made their 3rd stop for 2010 and their 1st time to hit the shores of Long Beach, CA. 21/08/2010
Thirty-five crafts and their teams of willingly silly participants entered the daunting Red Bull launch pad with aspirations of flying grandeur. Truth be told, some were ill-fated from the start, some were just there to dress up and/or dress down to the diapers and some had the makings of a champion flugtag. Whatever the reason, onward they pushed, to the edge for blessed glory or damned failure.
As the crowds and crowds and crowds of people, approximately 105,000 of people, sat on a big grassy hill across from the takeoff ramp, drenched in sunscreen and mist from their spray bottles, they cheered on the human-powered flying machines as the teams skillfully and gracefully danced-out their routines before muscling their craft into flight. Meanwhile the judges across the harbor scored and tallied their numbers based on flying distance, creativity and showmanship.
