End Domestic Flights Now protest - London/Manchester

The protest began at 11:00 am outside the entrance to the Airport with a heavy police presence. Following a few speeches the protest moved on to an open top double decker bus to raise awareness of the campaign through the streets of London. The bus wound it's way to Euston and from here the protest moved onto a train bound for Manchester where there is a planned demonstration at Terminal 3 in similar style to London's at 4:30 pm. In the evening there will be a party on Hasty Lane near Manchester airport - a street threatened by aviation expansion.

According to the organisers, "There are currently 38 flights a day between Manchester and the London hubs alone. Airport expansion threatens peoples' homes and green spaces whilst noise pollution blights local communities - all for something we don't need and cannot justify."

The group want to see the use of trains on a larger scale to combat the high amount of domestic air traffic.
