The Lighting Fiesta and Bertuntung - Kuching, Malaysia

Lighting fiesta is better known as 'Bertuntung' in Malaysia, which starts on the 4th September and lasts through the Syawal, Aidil Fitri period will see villages in Kuching lit with traditional lamps.

Apart from adding to the festive spirit and attracting tourists,the lighting fiesta is held with the aim of bringing back nostalgic feelings of how Hari Raya Aidil Fitri was celebrated in the past,when Malay/Muslim of Sarawak would decorate the kampung and houses with kerosene lamps.

'Bertuntung' a tradition widely practiced by the Malay/Muslim community in Sarawak, since the colonial era was slowly losing its 'colorful' appeal, but now thanks to the Lighting Festival is now set to make a grand comeback.
