The Copenhagen Air is on Fire with David Lynch's latest Artwork
David Lynch holds a press conference of his "The Air is on Fire" art exhibition at GL Strand in the center of Copenhagen to be opened September 26th. The exhibition was first shown at Foundation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Paris 2007.
The exhibition shows a careful selection of David Lynch's production from the 1960s to today - the monumental paintings, drawings, post-it format, lithographs, early experimental films, watercolors and sound sculpture
Today, Lynch answered about 20 questions from the Danish press, and seemed in good spirits. He was asked what did he think about Denmark - and replied that he thought Danes were full of light and a very enlightened country; but when asked if there was any Dane that has inspired him, he replied No. He also spoke about his appreciation and value about "doodling", and he marked it was a fine chance to explore ones creativity and ideas.
David Lynch praised the art work of Bob Dylan and supported the idea of artists to explore all areas of their talents.
"I like to go under the surface - these ideas come and they are surprising to me and they come in fragments - and then they connect - there are many things going on under the surface - and we can all feel them and they are interesting to think about" remarks Mr. Lynch.
When asked about the name "Bob" - Lynch replied that a name is quite important and can change the way you think. The name of a person indicates certain things - and the Bob in the paintings could run into some trouble and end up being similar to the Bob in Twin Peaks.
According to David Lynch, ideas come, and these ideas are conjured by the world - we still feel the world coming in all the time - and sometimes an idea comes and you fall in love with this idea - there is a lot of suffering, negativity and absurdities which conjure up ideas. He remarks that the dark side is something that he focuses on and there is something in the dark side that he finds a good thing because they, his paintings, wind up making him happy. He likes to make these worlds where people can go into and have an experience - and that also includes the dark side.
David Lynch gets real with the elements and sound with his art work - He talks about sound being an important part of creativity which conjures up ideas as well as elements - David Lynch feels that air is very beautiful - he loves wind sounds and he feels that air - a moaning wind - makes a mystery - fire - its warm and it makes people dream.
After practicing transcendental mediation for 37 years, David Lynch has decided to do his next documentary film on this subject.
