Vienna's Financial Institutions

Vienna's importance as a financial center extends well beyond the borders of Austria. The Vienna Stock Exchange listed as ATX, Bank Austria, Bawag Bank and Erste Bank as well as the Ministry of Finance are the major players on the local monetary scene, while the importance of the National Bank has been in decline since the introduction of the Euro and the phasing out of the former Austrian currency the shilling.
