A wave of protests for the arrival of the President of the United States, Barrack Obama to Indonesia. Dozens of students demonstrated in front of the Consulate General of the United States in Jalan Dr. Soetomo. 08/11/2010
The students displayed banners and pamphlets denouncing the US president, who they said would use his Indonesian trip to polish his international image amid alleged war crimes involving the US in Afghanistan, Iraq and other Muslim countries across the world. Some students set fire to Obama’s picture during the march.
They also accused Obama of attempting to perpetuate American imperialism through bilateral cooperation with Indonesia.
“Accepting Obama constitutes our endorsement of American foreign policy, which aims to expand its imperialism in economic, political and governance sectors,” rally coordinator Taufiqurrahman said.
Obama’s trip to Indonesia will be part of his 10-day journey to Asia, which will also take him to India and Seoul.
Another rally against Obama took place outside the US Embassy in Central Jakarta.
