RIP CURL PRO Bells Beach 2009: the young OWEN WRIGHT (AUS), in blue, said no to the legend KELLY SLATER (USA), in yellow.
2 meters waves presented to the tournament such perfect conditions, and we have seen in action the best surfers in the planet. Kelly Slater (37), in yellow t-shirt is the none time world champion; world champion in charge thanks his last title in 2008, at the age of 36. He’s the youngest surfer who ever won a world championship (he was 20), oldest one (the last year 36),only surfer to score a 'Perfect 20' heat total (Tahiti, 2005), most elite tour wins in pro surfing history (39): he’s a living legend and the winner of RIP CURL PRO BELLS BEACH 2008. Today was his first heat and he had to defend the title vs the young OWEN WRIGHT (19 years old), that show his ability scoring a 7.67 in his second wave of the day and a 6.83 in his forth (high lights in the pictures). Kelly had a 7.00 getting in a not so perfect little barrel in his second wave but wasn’t able to reach an higher score than 6.83 in his fourth wave. The competition get to an end after five waves for both two the surfers for the happiness of Owen.
