124 Parliamentary constituencies in15 states and 2 Union Territories in India have voted today for a new Government at the centre. To be held in five phases, these elections are when the world's largest democracy passes through some acid tests, but the nation always manages to come out unscathed.
Parts of Andhra Pradesh, a south Indian state, have also voted for a new State Legislature. The remaining parts will vote in the second phase. 62.45% of voters have exercised their franchise today in the state. Most of the voters who exercised their franchise were youngsters, who probably were voting for the first time and senior citizens.
