The traditional figurine fair opened this week. Marseilles, France, 24/11/2010
The santons are figurines originally meant for the Christmas scene. During the years it becomes one of the main products of the area, with a yearly fair is taking place once a year a long with the Christmas market as part of the holidays events.
On Sunday the yearly "Foir aux santons" was opened in downtown Marseilles. While in the past the santons represented only the Christmas scene figures, today it contain much more and includes tradition Provencal figures, with traditional cloths and scenes typical to the area.
You can find there houses, windmills, animals, and figures in different sizes and beautifully painted, as well as ready to be paint stuff.
