Police from all over London and the Home Counties prepare for a riot the never happened. London, UK. 14/12/2010
Police from all over London along with officers from Essex, Herfordshire, Surrey and other Home County constabularies, joined forces today to prepare for public disorder on a large scale, but it was all in vain.
Lorries were used to deliver cages of round riot shields and long six foot shields and large bags full of police riot gear were laid out inside the grounds of the Houses of Parliament. Police dogs were also used to patrol the area and metal fencing was laid out to act as sort of barracade between police and the potentially large amounts of rioters.
The police officers were there from 07:00hrs until around 20:30hrs that evening with only a small amount of students turning up for a short time.
All was peaceful and the riot shields and other equipment was not needed.
