Hi Andy,
Thanks to appreciate my feature.
This time, JR, the author of the photo exhibit, has got an authorization from Rio de Janeiro city's government. His first exhibit in the Morro da Providencia slum was organized totally illegally and at that time he received just an authorization from the favela community and the narco smugglers.
I wrote an article about the first photo exhibit organized by JR in the first slum built in the history of Rio de Janeiro. The favelas were called like that by some afro brazilian soldiers, formers slaves freed after to have participated at the Canudos war (1893-1897). Some of the ex slaves, after the conflict, used to live in the big "morro", the hill closed to the Rio de Janeiro harbor, a place that made the soldiers remind the hill where they fought and were full of flowers called "Favelas".
