Around sixty people gathered in front of Boots in Bond Street to claim against its tax system. London, United Kingdom. 30/01/2011
Boots is a leading pharmacy chain in the United Kingdom with outlets in most high streets throughout the country. The British brand is accused of avoiding tax duties due to the relocation of their corporate HQ from Nottingham to a post office box in tax haven Switzerland. The health and beauty store is reducing its annual tax bill from 100m pounds to 14m pounds.
More than fifty people protested in front of one of the stores in Bond Street, in the crowded Oxford Street, to claim for what they believe an injustice. While the government is proposing hundreds of cuts, people show their anger arguing that Tories and Liberal Democrats will destroy the NHS.
