About 3,000 supporters of the English Defence League (EDL) held a rally in St. Georges Square in Luton. The anti-islamic group was founded in Luton by Stephen Yaxley- Lennon, so today’s protest was seen by them as a return home. Luton, UK, 05/02/2011
Around 3000 supporters of the English Defence League known or EDL held a rally in St. Georges Square in Luton. The anti-islamic group was founded in Luton by Stephen Yaxley- Lennon, so today’s static protest was seen by them as a return home.
The crowd which was made up of supporters from around the UK and a few from mainland Europe, felt triumphant as they marched into the square where they listened to speeches from the leadership and from visiting American tea party member, Rabbi Nachum Shifren.
There was a large police presence standing behind robust metal barriers. The town centre was devoid of the local population and many shop windows were bordered up. This was because of the negative publicity prior to the rally.
On the other side of the town centre was a counter demonstration organised by “Unite Against Fascism” and “Hate Racism, Love Music”. They numbered around 300.
The two opposing groups didn’t meet and violent clashes were avoided.

That might have been from the German group. I wouldn't say they all did it. Only a few.

A great set. After listening to Yaxley-Lemon ranting on LBC this morning about how absolutely non-fascist the EDL is, I found your picture of those arms raised in the usual "seig heil" gesture to encapsulate everything we need to know about the darkest motives of this group.
