Thousands of people gathered at United Nations Plaza a week after a march ended there. It was part of an International Day to show solidarity with the democracy movements in Egypt and Tunis. A rally was addressed by activists who talked about Egypt and Tunis. Religious leaders spoke including a priest from the Coptic Orthodox Church.
Organizers estimated seven thousand people took part in the march. It went past City Hall where San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos spoke. They marched down Market Street and past the Federal Building before returning to UN Plaza.
Several signs mentioned twitter and facebook. One woman held a sign calling for the safe return of Google executive Wael Ghonim who is thought to have been detained in Egypt.
