A sudden twist in the weather caused floods in Manila on April 22, 2009. Many people were stranded in their homes and offices. Traffic snarled in Metro Manila thoroughfares. In España Avenue, children enjoyed playing in their own little water park.
Many areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced flooding these past few days due to torrential rains. Filipinos are bothered with the continuous rains because these are unusual for the season. The intermittent rains in summer could be an indication of climate change.
With the rainy season coming early, the health department advised the public not to wade in floods barefoot as the floodwaters may be infected with rat droppings; and to take precautions against Dengue and Leptospirosis.
Philippines will continue to experience rainshowers and thunderstorms according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) due to a cold front and an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ). This is abnormal since ITCZ normally comes during the last week of May.
