The Lions were packing into the den from early hours of the morning ready to feast of the Kangaroos. But the rains sadly prevented the game from progressing and was abandoned with a point being share. Colombo, Sri Lanka. 05/03/2011.
The fans around the R. Premadasa International Cricket Ground were utterly disappointed but some were over speculative in stating that Sri Lanka may have been lucky to have gained a point rather than losing two as the Kangaroos were truly on top of the game. Bret Lee having started in lightning fashion started to claim wickets as at the 32nd over when the rains broke down,Sri Lanka were 146 for 3 in 32.5 overs. The game was rather intense at times with tension building from both camps and there were two occasions where the Aussie players had to be calmed down by fellow team mates and the umpires had to intervene aftr exchange of words between bowler and batsman.
The ground had become more of a swimming pool to some pitch invaders, who some how managed to brake through the tight security which was no where to be seen. Eventually as the game was called off security did tighten up and they were escorted out.
Sri Lanka now face Zimbabwe at Kandy but many are worried about the current weather patterns which tend to fall in the evening hours and are raising concern as to whether the remaining games in Sri Lanka should be changed to day games instead, but this would highly be unlikely due to the arrangements and planning of the whole tournament.
