Muslims show support for Coptic Christians at Cairo Rally
A number of Muslims could be spotted among the crowd on the sixth day of a Coptic Christian rally in Cairo. The Christians are demanding justice after Muslims burned down a Church in a town near the capital. Cairo, Egypt. 10/03/2011
Thousands of Coptic Christians rally in Cairo as the protest entered its sixth day. The demonstration is being held outside the state television broadcaster (CTV) in Cairo.
The protesters want justice for the Muslims who burned down a church and expelled seven thousand Christians from the village of Saul in El Hellan district. Some Muslims in the village want to build a mosque on the site of the church, but the Christians want a church rebuilt on the same site, the Christian villagers given their old homes back, and the perpetrators of crimes brought to justice.
The crescent moon and cross is the symbol of Muslim Christian unity in Egypt. There were many signs bearing this symbol visible at the rally.
On Friday there will be a big rally at Tahrir square, and the Coptics have been invited by the organizers to participate.
