Pie Hard ! The SXSW pie fight

As part of the fun of SXSW, gobbler.com using facebook and twitter organised a massive pie fight!

Pie, as well as being a lovely desert, is also a mathematical constant spelt Pi. Pi links a circles circumference (distance around the outside) with its radius (distance from the middle to the edge) and fascinates many math experts and geeks and has spawed challenges to recite it to the largest number of decimal places as well as Pi day.

Pie day falls on March 14 because in the american calendar, where they print month first, this represents the first 3 numbers of Pi 3/14. So they created Pi Hard to merge the two, Pies and Pi.

The event was overseen by The Universal Record Database (http://urdb.org/) to check how many pies were thrown and secure their record over Dallas who until this even held the record for largest pie fight.
