The Democratic City Council organizing the Newroz celebration this year says it is expecting hundred thousand people to attend the 20 March Newroz celebration in Istanbul.

Newroz 2011 is expected to be the most spectacular event of the year for the approximately 5 million Kurds living in Istanbul. This year, the Democratic City Council is organizing the Newroz celebrations, which will be held again at the ‘Newroz field’ in Kazlıçeşme Square in Zeytinburnu. The preparations have been continuing for weeks in 33 districts of Istanbul.

The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul Branch will provide buses for transportation to the celebration. The celebration will start at 10am. BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş will make the opening speech and many artists will take the floor.
