Portugal political crisis provoque the fall of Jose Socrates government and forces president Cavaco Silva to call new elections. Lisboa, Portugal. 01/02/2011.
The 4th version of the PEC (economical Program for Stability and Growing), a package of ecomical measures presented by the government in order to try to stop portuguese recession, lead the opposition to firmly withstand against even more restraints and voting against this PEC4 during the afternoon in the portuguese parliament.
As said some days ago by the Prime Minister Jose Socrates, if this plan would not be approved he wouldn't feel no conditions to continue in the government and as just presented his resignation to president Cavaco Silva.
Pedro Passos Coelho, leader of the social democratic party, leads the odds to be the next prime minister. The legislative elections are expected to happen within 2 months.
