As part of the tradition in Leonidio the sky is lit up by hundreds of multicolored hot air balloons that offer a captivating spectacle as they rose into the horizon. They are handmade by the local people and the town's five parishes compete with each other to keep up in the air as many balloons as possible for the longest period of time. The day after there is a reverly at the local square that apart from the music and the dance they also give balloons to people and help them to light them up.
