Ratko Mladic's first appearance at The Hague war crimes tribunal
Ratko Mladic will be deferred until July 4 to the Yugoslavia Tribunal to prepare the case against him. People outside demonstrated against him as he said more time was needed to examine all allegations. 3rd June 2011
The former Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic : "I defended my people and my country,''said the war war crimes suspect Mladic during his first court appearance Friday at the Yugoslavia Tribunal in The Hague.
Mladic at the meeting did not discuss the charges, including genocide, but made clear several times what he thought. He said that Croats were killed were not slain, because they were Croats''. Also, he shook his head in protest when the charges were read.
Mladic appeared towards the end of the session to begin an impassioned plea to want to defend his actions, but was quickly interrupted by presiding Judge Alphons Orie. The arraignment will continue on July 4.
