Campaigners gather for a rally in London's Trafalgar Square marking, United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, a demonstration called by London Guantánamo Campaign (LGC) & Kingston Peace Council / CND. The speakers and those attending represent various organisations and different aspects of the campaigns against torture, inhuman treatment, injustice and related issues. Speakers include: David Harrold (LGC); Noel Hamel (CND); Jean Lambert MEP, Green Party; Andy Worthington, historian & author; Noa Kleinman, Amnesty International; Maya Evans, Justice Not Vengeance (JNV); Les Levidov, Campaign Against Criminalising Communities (CAMPACC); Dr Frank Arnold, Medical JusticeHelen & Bamber Foundation; Andrey Sidelnikov campaign for Mikhail Khodorkovsky; Simran Kaur campaigning for Davinderpal Singh Bhullar; Ilyas Townsend, Justice for Aafia Coalition; Naomi Colvin, UK Friends of Bradley Manning; Haci Ozdemir, International Committee Against Disappearances; Maria Gallastegui, Peace Strike; Ray Silk, Shaker Aamer campaign; Qavi.The event is in part inspired by a statement by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan "This is a day on which we pay our respects to those who have endured the unimaginable. This is an occasion for the world to speak up against the unspeakable. It is long overdue that a day be dedicated to remembering and supporting the victims and survivors of torture around the world."
