A drunk driver swerved into a parked car, lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into a light pole just outside a restaurant on one of Helsinki's main streets. He was apprehended by civilians as he attempted to flee the scene. Sweden. 9th July 2011
An older-model Honda Accord careened around a corner onto Norra esplanaden in Helsinki's city centre. The driver swerved as he accelerated, but he quickly began to swerve in his lane and side-swiped a parked BMW 1-series station wagon. The driver then lost control, spun around, and his Honda ended up with its rear end resting against a light pole just outside Cafe Strindberg. When concerned diners approached the vehicle, the driver stumbled out of his car and started to run, turning the corner onto the shopping street of Mikaelsgaten. Several lookers-on began chasing him, but it was two unidentified locals who captured and restrained the distraught, obviously drunk driver until police arrived approximately five minutes later. The police, after a quick assessment, handcuffed the driver and led him away as the small crowd of onlookers that had gathered watched.
