Pakistani Journalists protest against missing Colleague - Karachi
Pakistani journalists protested in front of Karachi Press Club against the disappearance of yet another journalist demanding his unscathed recovery, failing which they would chalk-out their strategy. Pakistan. 23rd July 2011
Dozens of members of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) chanted slogans and hold hand-written banners on July 23 in front of Karachi Press Club which also houses KUJ office.
The General Secretary of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Ameen Yusuf and the president of its Karachi Chapter KUJ demanded the government to ensure safe return of the journalist of local TV channel Munawwar Malki who went missing on July 21 after being seen at a restaurant near his office. He has not yet returned.
According to Reporters without Frontiers, a global watchdog focusing on excesses against journalists, seven of the 31 journalists killed thus far this year across the world were killed in Karachi. The killings of Saleem Shahzad, a journalist working for Asia Times Online (AToL) who was abducted from his home in capital Islamabad and the gunning down of WaliKhan Babar, a reporter of local TV channel, have have made Pakistani. journalists extremely insecure.
