Monmouth Town's annual carnival brings visitors from far and wide

Amid lovely weather hundreds of people turned up to watch the traditional annual Monmouth Carnival start today at 2p.m. today and then wait for the third day of Monmouth Festival to begin at 8 p.m. in the evening.
The procession took place right through Monnow Street which is the main street in the mediaeval market town, birthplace of Henry the Vth. The town was packed with local inhabitants and tourists. The procession was led by the local fire service and then a series of floats, local radio and drummers. The Wizard of Oz float was spectacular sponsored by Millbrook Nurseries. Snow White and several Disney characters were to be seen walking the length of the street, although it was thirsty work for these. Amongst the vehicles in the parade was a Rolls Royce, a vintage mini and several other vintage cars. The Savoy Theatre, Sunshine Radio and a few other local motorised displays were on hand. A group of motorcyclists also drove through the parade. The Mayor of Monmouth, Mr Gerald Bright awarded prizes to the Best Vehicle, Monmouth Netball Team and the Best Walker was a young lad aged 7, Cian Morgan of Monmouth. The Monmouth Town Band played some lovely band music for several hours in the afternoon, with singing by Ian Macintyre. Many areas of the town were turned into a temporary funfair, with sidestalls and a great time was had by the children and parents throughout the afternoon.
