On 28th of May in the city of Skopje in association with the European forum of WORLDWIDE MUSIC FESTIVALS and Skopje jazz festival, Offest 2009 was opened with the mexican diva Lila Downs. The second day of the festival, two extraordinary performers: D and the brilliant Daniel Melingo gave amazing performances that thrilled the audience with their music.
The concert started at 20:30h at Univerzalna sala with the performance of Rundek Cargo trio. This time he performed in an unplugged version with only two musicians: Isabel(violin, sound effects) and Dusan Vranic-Duco(piano,accordion,zither,vocal,percussions). Rundek was popular in Yugoslavia during the 80's, when he was the leader of a very popular band called Haustor. In exile in Paris during the war he meet with the members of the Cargo orchestra (with musicians from France,Croatia,Bosnia and Switzerland). They played music with different influences:first the Balkans,Central Europe and the Mediterranean, then reggae, eastern,African and South American sounds. They performed in many countries like:France,Portugal,UK,Germany,Italia etc.For the concerts,Cargo mixes new and old songs of Rundek's repertoire.Their shows take us through variety of atmospheres and through really unique sounds.
After the 15min brake it was time for the audience to meet the "savior" of the Tango. This Argentine multi-instrumentalist,singer and composer with a background in rock and tango, showed up on the stage wearing black suit and a typical tango hat. With very slow and dramatic moves he started his concert. The beautiful sound of Rodrigo Guerra(mandoline),Rudi Flores(guitar),Nini Flores(bandoneon) and Pablo Pensavale(double bass) matched perfectly with the Melingo's voice. After his interesting approach to the audience he continued to amuse them with playing on guitar and clarinet. At the end of the concert one couple from the audience came up on stage and joined Melingo with original tango moves/dance.It was quite a show, they really fit in with the scenario.Daniel Melingo proved his reputation as world-class entertainer as well as comparison to Tom Waits and Nick Cave.
