Over a million revellers came together for Europe's biggest street festival - Notting Hill Carnival 2011, held in West London every August Bank Holiday since 1966.

Twenty miles of vibrant celebrations saw hot party atmosphere with dance, magnificent colourful costumes, 40 static systems and bands and hundreds of Caribbean food and drink stalls.

London Mayor Boris Johnson addressed the nation with a call before the festivities began to "let the true spirit of London shine through" – with the hope that the event would help heal the wounds left by the riots. A 3 minute silence was observed during the Carnival to respect the victims of UK riots at 3pm on Monday, 29 August.

Numerous Police guards could be seen all over the Carnival route. At the start of Monday Parade two Police officers dealt with an onlooker, who climbed the roof of bus 23 stop in Chepstow Road to have the best view of the festivities. He had to leave his privileged spot when confronted by Police.
