In India, where the high Hindu population means that beef is not common, the Big Mac was renamed and made with lamb instead; however, along with the company's other items it is now made from chicken. Mumbai. 6th September 2011
Indian Chicken Maharaja Mac from McDonalds in Tilak Nagar, Mumbai
Since Hindu dietary law prohibits the consumption of beef, McDonald's had to tweak its burger recipe for the Indian market. The Maharaja Mac is made of chicken and replaces the Big Mac. Also on the Indian menu are the McVeggie and the McChicken.
