Amna Suraka operated from 1979 until 1991 as a “secret” prison, where the Baath regime had interrogated, tortured and killed Kurdish prisoners. Iraq. 7th September 2011
The building is called 'Red Security' in English, due to its original red painted walls. It was home to all horrors of the repressive Saddam regime.
Today, Amna Suraka is a museum displaying shocking relicts of Saddam's genocide of the Kurds. Many of the rooms will be disturbing for visitors, discretion and proper preparation is strongly advised.
