World Rhino Day was celebrated by the "Green Renaissance" movement, by erecting 282 crosses at Sea Point Promenade in protest over the number of Rhinos poached in 2011. South Africa. 22nd September 2011

22/09/2011
Today is World Rhino Day. And in protest of the number of Rhino's that have been poached in South Africa (which number 282) this year, an Organisation called "Green Renaissance" has erected 282 crosses at the Sea Point Promenade in Cape Town. They have been layed in the form of a crucifix.

It has been suggested in the South African Parliament that the South African Police help private Rhino owners aquire firearm licenses for semi-automatic rifles, to help owners of private reserves (where many Rhinos live, and where many of the incidents of poaching have occurred) defend themselves and the help defend the Rhinos from poachers.
