At the time of the explosion around noon, my wife and I were talking to a shop keeper in the spice market some 500m away. He went out of the shop and looked up as did several other people. After, he explained that sometimes the gas bottles which are used to cook with explode. Finishing our conversation, we made out way to the post office on Jamaa el-Fna square, where we encountered the devastation of what was once the Cafe Argana.
We had spent several days in Marrakech, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and had worked our way around the different cafe's on the edge of the square. Quite simply it could have been us sitting in Cafe Argana having a drink that day.
This was our second visit to Marrakesh and I'm sure it won't be the last.
